History

The program that would later be known as On the Money first aired on September 4, 1970, under the title The Wall Street Journal Report, appearing on multiple stations. A radio version, The Wall Street Journal Business Report, launched at the same time. The show inspired many local editions, including one on WGN-TV in Chicago. In 1982, it became a fully national program in partnership with WPIX in New York City, where it stayed for three years.

Consuelo Mack began anchoring the show in 1987 and remained in that role until fall 2004. Maria Bartiromo took over as host in September 2004. The program covers interviews, discussions, weekly job reports, stock market updates, and economic stories. It was renamed On the Money with Maria Bartiromo on January 6, 2013, after CNBC's content agreement with Dow Jones & Company—owner of the Wall Street Journal and purchased by News Corporation in 2007—ended.

The title On the Money had previously been used for a daily CNBC program from 2005 to 2009. Bartiromo left CNBC on November 22, 2013, moving to Fox Business Network, making that weekend's broadcast her last. The show was then retitled simply On the Money, hosted by CNBC's Becky Quick, who also appears on Squawk Box. Production ceased in December 2019, alongside Nightly Business Report.
