Format

Each of the 15 hour-long episodes followed a consistent structure. The first segment featured two heroes (with Batman and Robin counted as one hero) in a mini story. The second segment centered on the Wonder Twins, who typically rescued teenagers endangered by their own misbehavior, such as vandalism or hitchhiking. The third segment was the primary adventure, involving the entire Super Friends roster including the Wonder Twins. The fourth segment paired one main hero with a special guest star, whose unique abilities solved the problem. Between segments, short spots offered safety lessons, health advice, magic tricks, craft projects, and a two-part riddle tied to the week's plot.

Character lineup

The main roster included Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Wonder Twins (Zan and Jayna) with their space-monkey Gleek, Black Vulcan, Apache Chief, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Rima the Jungle Girl, the Atom (Ray Palmer), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Samurai, and the Flash (Barry Allen). Black Manta appeared in two episodes, referred to only as Manta and wearing olive brown. Gentleman Ghost appeared in the episode titled Ghost, called Gentleman Jim Craddock, and was sent back to his grave using the mystical Rods of Merlin.
